Upright MRI
Same Patient, Same Day, Same Scan
These are lumbar spine images of a patient who had undergone back surgery but was continuing to experience pain. The MRI image on the left was acquired with the patient lying down. It shows a normal alignment of the vertebrae. However, when the patient was scanned in an upright position on the same MRI scanner on the same day (right image), a dramatic spinal instability was clearly revealed. This problem was visible only when the patient was scanned upright and would have gone undiagnosed on a conventional, lie-down MRI scanner.
Multi-Position/Upright MRI
The Upright MRI can provide diagnostic pictures of the neck (cervical spine), the lower back (the lumbar spine), and the joints of the body over their full range of motion. Flexion and extension views of the spine, for example, often provide critical information that doctors need in order to achieve the best results for their patients.
The Upright MRI is unlike any other scanner because it can scan patients in ANY POSITION. Other MRI scanners can only scan patients lying down. The Upright MRI can scan patients lying down too, but if the patient has, say, low back pain only when they are sitting or standing, does it make sense to scan them lying down? Only the Upright MRI can scan patients in their positions of symptoms, whatever they may be, including WEIGHT-BEARING positions, such as sitting, standing and bending. This unique ability has enabled the Upright MRI to provide more accurate diagnoses by detecting many problems that were underestimated or completely missed by other kinds of MRI’s.
PATIENT - FRIENDLY MRI
The Upright MRI is, without a doubt, the most patient- friendly MRI anywhere. Most patients are scanned comfortably seated watching a 42" flat screen tV. The front-open and top-open design of the Upright MRI nearly eliminates possible claustrophobic reactions.
HIGH RESOLUTION PICTURES
A strong magnetic field, together with state-of-the-art software and hardware advancements, enables the Upright MRI to produce pictures of exceptional quality.
